the time is now

One thing which makes my heart tick the fastest is the thought of a community praying together.  Back in 2009 I was part of a week of 24-7 prayer in North Pine, Cape Town – hearts were softened, jobs found, murder ceased for the duration of the week in the police district (yes. Wow!) and young and old were invited into a deeper, more exciting journey with their Father.

Since getting back to South Africa last year, I have been itching to see this happen again, not just as a once off but as a sustained response to injustice and violence in Cape Town, and Manenberg, in particular.  The time is now!

Fusion is facilitating a week of 24-7 prayer from the 5th-12th August in the Manenberg People Centre (our offices).

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my faceand turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”                                                                         God.

In the last month, there has been a huge increase in gang violence all over Cape Town.  Manenberg is no different – we are “getting used” to daily shootings and watching as a community re-learns how to survive in a volatile climate that they haven’t had to endure for over 7 years.

We know that the violence is a visible representation of the battle that rages in the unseen, but the only response is to turn and call our Father to bring heaven on earth.  When Jesus taught us how to pray, his instruction was to pray on earth as in heaven because the time is now, God’s Kingdom is among us and there is no place for violence and rebellion in His Kingdom. We are trusting that as God’s people in Manenberg unite and turn their faces upwards, that God will draw close to us and we will see restoration of hearts and lives in this community.

The practical side of this prayer week is kicking in and we are busy preparing posters, advertising, sharing vision with churches and putting together “sleep-over” rotas etc.  We want this to be stonking, and for people to feel at ease praying here with us.  Given the current climate, we’d love to employ a few security people to watch over the premises while people come in and out to pray and so we need to invest a bit of capital in this. We are trusting God to provide for our needs,  but if anyone would like to make a small contribution to the running of the week, we are working with a budget of around R5,500 or 500 pounds sterling. If this is something that stirs your heart and you’d like to help out, drop me an email…

Other than that…please pray!
