I would describe myself as a wannabe theologian from the school of semi-informed google searches, life in Manenberg, a few hundred hours in prayer rooms and parenting. I love understanding the Bible in relation to culture and history, finding cool wee links in words and ideas that aren’t instantly obvious, and how there’s always a new perspective depending or how or with whom you read. I have a dissatisfaction with a lot of what I read in the Bible (at least the way we’ve been reading it), and a lot of what I see in the church, but am pretty sure there is goodness in both – a fair amount, in fact.
I love my two wee boys, husband, and community and think there’s as much to learn from them about the nature of God as there is from a million books or podcasts – but I do love a podcast.
I’m a mix of taking my time to think through my ideas and many very off-the cuff ramblings that come out as they come out. So enjoy my emotionally charged musings and hope they spark some thoughts of your own.
Wow, Clare…it’s so funny, or ironic…or the Universe/God at play, but minutes before finding you & your blog, (through a share by my sister-in-law Heidi Segal), I was glued – by concentration and tears(!) – to the 5-part series of “Killers Come Home” [as well as another documentary on Manenberg!]
How I even got there, is only (and clearly!) indicative of the link-looping CyberCycling so seamlessly induces! 😀
But, from there to itisnolongeri, I just wanted to connect and say “Yay to you for your stunning commitment!” and thank you….for indeed ‘Fortune favours the brave’!!
Have a superb week!
Cheers
Liesl 🙂
Thanks for the comment, always nice to see who’s reading!…but random connections hey! Out of interest, what is the Manenberg documentary?
Clare
Hey Clare,
It was about a girl (I think ex-gang member) who was making a documentary on her hometown and upbringing. She ends up winning an art scholarship, & really flourishes. I don’t remember what it’s called or even what her name is….I was just so taken by the assault on the senses – the ‘hood & the accent, and just feeling so much simultaneous heartache and love for her and all others-of-circumstance.
Hope some of these key words will help in your Google search!
I’ll see what I can find, & if I do find it, will send you the link 🙂
Cheers
